Launched in 2013, Iris’s NightRunner was the very first Night Vision device of its kind aimed at the wider boating market. Until its launch, thermal imaging technology was limited to those with the biggest budgets.
Although we designed NightRunner predominantly for use aboard smaller craft like centre console vessels, sports fishing boats and the like, boaters from all over saw the benefits NightRunner’s dual sensor technology offered, allowing them to extend their time on the water whilst also providing vital safety functionality, aiding in man overboard searches for example – at a sensible price.
Following the initial launch we extended the range to offer a higher resolution thermal sensor and finally introducing the IRIS290 and IRIS390 single payload models – which due to their extremely sensible price tag became instant hits.
With the launch of our new Sentinel cameras in 2019, we have decided to trim back the NightRunner range, migrating dual sensor functionality into the new Sentinel range and retaining the ultra affordable single sensor models. In doing so, we thought it would be a nice touch to build our tilt axis gyro stabilisation into the IRIS290 and IRIS390 making them the most affordable gyro stabilised night vision cameras available anywhere in the world!
